JC Fire Department never ceases to impress JC residents, myself included. And this time, they show us how to properly appoint a deserving leader.

The incumbent Jersey City Fire Chief William Sinnott will be retiring due to age. And he will be replaced by the 47-year old Deputy Chief Michael O’Reilly.

Among the 6 deputy chiefs, O’Reilly got the top mark in a state-administered test they took last January.

The Fire Director Armando Roman is the one in-charge of picking the next chief. In nj.com, he said: “I told the mayor from the beginning, whoever comes out No. 1 has paid his dues, applied himself and deserves it,” Roman said.

(See? You pick the one who deserves the job, not a relative who failed to display qualifications. *cough* *Flood* *cough*)

Meanwhile, JC Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy sings praises to the outgoing chief: “Hes been a great leader and a great role model for the younger firefighters,” Jersey City Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy said of Sinnott, who joined the force in 1966 and has been chief for the past 15 months.

(If you remember, Sinnott’s Department saved the life of a 2-year old boy who nearly died in fire on Orchard Street last week)

Good luck on the retirement, chief William Sinnott! And Congratulations to the new chief, Michael O’Reilly! *clap*
