100 Strangers Project: Tom of JSQ

Guy is in Gee and his wife were in Journal Square a couple of weeks ago when they met Tom. Read his story about Tom below:

“As my wife and I killed time near Journal Square in Jersey City we came across Tom. He had this great big smile on his face. I said “hello’, and after a few pleasantries, Tom asked if we could spare some change so he could get something to eat. I said we would do better than that, we’d take him to a nearby Burger King and buy him a burger. He gladly accepted the offer, and on the way to BK he had second thoughts. “Would you mind if we went to Dunkin’ Donuts instead, I like their pizza”. No problem.

We went with Tom into Dunkin’ Donuts and he ordered pizza and coffee.

While we waited, Tom told us that he had just gotten out of the hospital and still was in a bit of pain, and had catheters hooked up to him. But he rarely stopped smiling.

Tom was born in Atlanta, and had moved to New Jersey when he was 6 months old.”

The following photos of JCFridays event in Jersey City are from “Adventures of Tintin” of flickr.com. He has travelled across the US, and has visited several countries in South America, Australia, Europe, and Asia.

Yesterday, Tintin was in Downtown, JC, and he took some photos of JCFridays participants on Erie Street and Jersey Avenue.

The first two pictures are from WORLD OF STYLE VINTAGE and BALANCE SALON FOR HAIR BALANCE SALON FOR HAIR, which presented “Welcome to the Funhouse,” a surreal circus fashion show celebrating the kaleidescopic kraziness of Spring. Events: opening reception for Colleen Gutwein’s “Gossamer,” a colorful series of abstract self-portraits; fab light sculptures by our resident artist, Norm Francoeur!
