[ORIGINAL POST: June 17, 2008]

A lot of anxious Jersey City residents have asked this question: When will Bally’s in Journal Square (JSQ) open?

According to JCConstruction blog, Bally is expected to open this July. But after a quick phone call last week, I learned that it is going to delay the opening date.

The lady that I talked to told me they will open late August or early September. Praveen, a JCRegister.com visitor, commented the same thing.

I called again yesterday afternoon, and the guy on the other line said that BALLY’s JC will open in two months — around late August.

If you want to call them yourself, find the 411 below. (You will be asked for your information, by the way … it’s up to you if you want to give it or not)

BALLY TOTAL FITNESS Jersey City (Journal Square Branch)
Address : Corner of Bergen Avenue and Newkirk Street, JC
Phone : (201) 974-9010
Opening Date : Late August/Early September (Tentative)

The weather here in Jersey City is still nice/gorgeous/fantastic/<insert positive adjectives> outside, so I went outside, picked a spot at the intersection of Bergen Avenue and Academy Street for some photos.

The perfect weather will continue tomorrow – the actual Memorial Day, so if you’re planning on having a BBQ, go ahead and enjoy!

At around 9AM this morning, I spotted a homeless still sleeping on the bench in front of Martin Luther King, JR. School (PS 11). I wanted to come closer for a nice photo, but I might disturb his sleep.

Just across is the Bergen Square, which was empty during that time. Normally, people would gather in this place, and some little kids go biking (circling) in this little/mini-plaza.

Bergen Avenue. North, to the left, you will see the TRUST company building (now rented by CAPITAL One Bank) and further is the PATH Plaza building. Nice blue skies, right? Notice also that the parking spaces were nearly empty. At 9AM, this area was very peaceful and quiet.

There were more pigeons than people in this place.

Enjoy your day!
