I swear when I read the news, it sounded like ABC’s popular reality show “Extreme Makeover Home Edition“, and a Marylanad-based company - Housing Trust of America Company (HTA) — played the role of Ty Pennington.

…HTA spent roughly $19,000 to perform a “moderate rehab” on each unit, said HTA President Wallace Scruggs.

In addition to the units, HTA spiffed up a lounge area on the first floor with carpeting, sofas and a high-definition TV, and added a new coat of paint, along with outdoor furniture on a seventh-floor outdoor patio….

The renovations made 86-year Gettie Williams happy. He’s been living there for 18 years. “The place is beautiful,” said Williams, showing off the new floors, kitchen, paint job, and upgraded lighting fixtures in her one-bedroom unit to the Jersey Journal writer.

The theme for this year is “Keeping the Vision Alive”. This event sounds like fun, based on the press release (see below) that I had read and cool photos that I saw from last year’s event.

The event will include rally, entertainment, and singing and dancing. There is also a huge Market Space with all kinds of food, merchandise vendors, and organizations. So if this interests you, make sure to save the date and spread the word by emailing this post to your friends!

I have always wanted to see and talk to Mr. Richard LaRovere, a prominent Jersey City local artist. I’m pretty sure you have seen some of his fantastic arts and sketches like the St. Aedan Church.

Good news is, Yvonne of SpeakNJ.com posted a Youtube video featuring Mr. LaRovere. So if you’re interested in knowing the man, go ahead and watch this 6-minute video.

Charles Balcer interviews Richard LaRovere, a local artist who does drawing and paintings of local buildings. They discuss the history of certain places. If you enjoy local history or art, then this show is a must…

If you are at work and can’t view YouTube, you’ll have a couple of chances to watch it on TV. According to Yvonne, it airs today @ 10:30 PM, Channel 51, Tuesdays @ 9:00 PM.

The following photos of JCFridays event in Jersey City are from “Adventures of Tintin” of flickr.com. He has travelled across the US, and has visited several countries in South America, Australia, Europe, and Asia.

Yesterday, Tintin was in Downtown, JC, and he took some photos of JCFridays participants on Erie Street and Jersey Avenue.

The first two pictures are from WORLD OF STYLE VINTAGE and BALANCE SALON FOR HAIR BALANCE SALON FOR HAIR, which presented “Welcome to the Funhouse,” a surreal circus fashion show celebrating the kaleidescopic kraziness of Spring. Events: opening reception for Colleen Gutwein’s “Gossamer,” a colorful series of abstract self-portraits; fab light sculptures by our resident artist, Norm Francoeur! BUMP (May 29, 2008 9PM): Michelle came up short in the contest. Despite passing rounds 1 and 2, She was disqualified going into the quarterfinals because she only scored 16 points in the first round, where the requirement was 20 points.

13-year-old Michelle Ann Tan of St. Nicholas School (The Heights Area of Jersey City) is currently competing in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. She is sponsored by the Jersey Journal.

She passed the 2nd round this morning by correctly spelling the word “astronautical“. Let’s wish her good luck. Hopefully, she makes it to the Finals.
