Enjoy a Family afternoon celebrating the season of creepiness with craft projects and storytelling! Jersey City Museum opens its doors for a Halloween-inspired bash with all the fun you would expect.

At 1pm, families will be able to create costumes for their big night out at age-appropriate craft stations set up in the museum’s classrooms. Art educators will be on hand to instruct guests on how to make colorful masks, mustaches, cowboy hats and more from ordinary art supplies.

Then at 3pm, families can enjoy scary stories in the museum’s theater with acclaimed storyteller Julie Pasqual. Pasqual is a member of the New Jersey Story Telling Guild, The National Storytelling Network and The Storytelling Center of New York. She is known for her animated storytelling style which often features folk tales from many cultures, including Spanish, Irish, Chinese, and African-American. I can’t remember the last time I posted an event hosted by JCM, so here’s one….

Jersey City Museum and The Philippine American Friendship Committee (PAFCOM) are pleased to present “Pasalubong from our Journey“, a twin bill of one-act comedies, on Saturday, July 12, 2008 at 2pm. The afternoon will include two one-act plays, written by Filipino-American playwrights, Jorshinelle Taleon-Sonza and Florentino Aquino Capili. Both plays depict Filipino culture and immigration woes in the United States. Suggested donation $10. Seniors, students and members $5. JCFridays is just three days away. If you haven’t made any plans yet, here’s one free event that you might find interesting.

You can visit JC Museum anytime between 11AM-5PM, and then proceed to The Majestic at 6PM for Hugo Bastidas: A Prefect World opening reception.

What is JCFridays?

Two weeks from now, Jersey City will be celebrating JCFridays.

If you still don’t know it yet, JCFridays is a quarterly and city-wide event here in Jersey City, held on the first Friday at the start of every season. JCFridays is an exhibition of culture and arts in JC filled with fun and educational programs that are open for public. June 06, 2008 is the 2nd JCFridays of the year, and the next will be on September 05, 2008.

What to Expect

Expect a day full of fun and educational events categorized into four types: art, performance, music, and film. The events will be in different places and the time will be over-lapping. So make sure you choose a few that interest you the most.

This JCFridays is in June, so it probably will not rain that day unlike the last time (March 07).

In case you are a JCFridays newbie, there are at least 20 events to choose from.

For instance, between 12pm-6pm you can sample SAVA POLISH DELI’s homemade Polish specialties at their recently opened establishment at 346 Grove St, 201-451-1901. While there, you can enjoy the paintings of John Besante’s “Landscapes in Oil.”

Here in JSQ/McGinley Square Area, you can enjoy free music at PATH Plaza between 1130AM - 130PM. Also, Prince of Pizza at 763 Bergen Ave (between Glenwood Ave/Montgomery St), 201-434-9453, offers to serve you up a slice and a calzone while taking in the world photography of Eric Lehrer.

Here’s a professional development workshop for artists who want their work exhibited in museum some day. JC Museum partnered with Hudson County Office of Cultural Affairs will host a 2-hour seminar and social networking with other artists. The workshop will feature renowned artist Xenobia Bailey.
