For the uninformed, palabok is basically noodles “smothered with a thick, golden shrimp sauce or other flavored sauce, and topped with: Shrimp, (the size and shell-on or shell-off depending on preference), crushed or ground pork rind (chicharron) for toppings, hard-boiled egg (sliced into disc or quartered lengthwise or chopped), tinapa flakes (smoked fish), freshly minced green onion.”
Little Quiapo’s serving is huge, and it’s good for two people. Amazingly, I finished mine without any help. If you want to try their palabok, make sure to bring some friends, as they are running a promotion: if you buy 3 palabok, you get the fourth one free.
Sounds like a good deal, right?

She ordered Sicilian meatball appetizer (Italian sausage meatballs with pine nuts and raisins in a light marinara sauce, $9) and Insalata con Arugula(arugula with freshly shaved fennel and oranges lightly tossed with extra virgin olive oil and finished with thin slices of parmigiano reggiano, $10). Casa Dante threw in a warm Italian bread to her take-out bag.
Overall, she wrote that she enjoyed the food even though it was quite expensive, and she would definitely go back to try their pasta. Read her full review of the meatballs, which she described as marvelous. (Trackback to her post)

The Filipino Idol Audition at Five Corners Branch Library in Jersey City attracted sixteen participants from New Jersey, New York, and even Virginia. However, for some reasons, only nine showed up.
But the low number didn’t discourage the organizers and the candidates to continue the event. As a matter of fact, the audition turned out fun and tension-less.
After the brief orientation, the nine contestants battled it out on stage, showcasing their talent in front of five respectable judges and supporters. The contestants were judged based on three criterias: Voice Quality (40%), Artistic Interpretation (30%), and Stage Presence (30%).
At break time, Jon-Michael and Riana, “jammed” with musicians, including former Filipino Idol Finalist John Balingit. Song-writer Archie arrived during that time and joined the panel of judges when the audition resumed.
When the audition was over, the judges conferred and Filipino Idol Chairperson Hector Magno gathered the participants on stage. Former Overall Chair for PAFCOM Carmen Flores went up and announced the finalists, who will then compete for the Grand Finals on June 29th at Exchange Place during the big annual festival famously known as “Philippine-American Friendship Day.”
Originally, eight finalists will be chosen. Since only nine auditioned, the judges decided that all of them will advance to the grand finals, which drew applause from the contestants and audience.
That also means one thing: all of them are guaranteed to receive $100!
Prizes at stake:
1st Place : $1000
2nd Place : $700
3rd Place : $500
Other Finalists : $100

Who is your favorite Filipino Idol Candidate?
Total Voters: 534

If you are a Filipino and have a talent in singing, you might want to audition in the Filipino Idol.
Filipino Idol is similar to the famous “American Idol” competition, only it is in a smaller scale limited to Filipinos. Like the American Idol, participants of Filipino Idol battle out to become the one and only “idol”.
So if you have what it takes to join this event, simply contact the organizers (details below) and sign up. Let them know you found them via JCRegister.com.

A sign on one of the truck says “Fiber-Optic” so I’m guessing it’s a FiOS installation. I might be wrong, though, so if you have details, feel free to comment.
During a red light, I rolled down my window and asked one of the workers how long it’s going to take. He said they might be finished at 5ish-6ish this afternoon. Hopefully sooner than that!
Rant: Can’t they do it at night?
