Yankees Merchandise Stolen

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

Yankees Merchandise Stolen
For illustration purpose only. Not the actual Yankees items.

More than $200,000 - that’s the estimated total amount of the stolen Yankees hats, shirts, and jerseys from Arya Samaj Mandir ministries in Jersey City. The merchandise was donated by the New York Yankees.

The robbery happened last Friday (May 30, 2008 between 2 and 3 a.m.) “…someone entered the Woodlawn Avenue property by cutting a hole in the metal fence in back of the building with a bolt cutter…” which is the garage where the items were stored.

Full news here.

A little tidbit: $200K is less than 10% of A-Rod (Alexander Rodriguez, a Yankee) monthly salary. How much does he earn annually? Do the math. ;)

Memorial Day Weekend Weather Most of the companies start their vacation today, in observance of the Memorial Day Holiday. Any one wondering what the weather is going to be this weekend? Well, it’s going to be really nice from Friday-Monday! How are you going to spend the day? My family is thinking of going out. I got invited to a BBQ party outside Jersey City, but I don’t think I’m going. It’s too far. Does anyone here in JC want to invite me to a party? :P

Yesterday was gorgeous, but a little breezy. it was a sign of the days to come. Below is a snapshot of West Side area (Fairview and JFK blvd).

Sacred Heart Church: one of NJ’s 10 Most Endangered Historic Sites

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

Sacred Heart Church in Greenville Area makes the list of NJ’s 10 most endangered historic sites, according to nj.com yesterday.

…In its heyday, the church had a congregation of 4,000 but closed in 2005 due to dwindling membership, Emrich said. (Ron Emrich is the director of the Preservation New Jersey)

“Now deteriorating, the structure is a potential target for vandals,” Emrich said. “It epitomizes the plight of urban places of worship whose congregations have dwindled.”

NJ.com also has a video documentation of the church architecture. Each video is approximately one-minute long. Below is a youtube video of its columns and arches.

I have listed down the rest of the videos, in case you’d like to watch more. Clicking on the links will open another window or tab and will link out to youtube:

Abandoned Gas Station?

Sunday, May 4th, 2008

Abandoned Gas station
View from W63rd St.

I saw an empty lot at the corner of 63rd Street and JFK Boulevard, in front of Cityline Plaza in Bayonne. It looks like it was previously occupied by a gas station before it shut down.

The spot is the boundary of Jersey City and Bayonne. Have you seen this place? Any information about this seemingly abandoned lot?
