Catholic Schools Week 2010 in Jersey City and Hudson County

Catholic Schools Week 2010 will be observed by Catholic schools across the nation starting January 31, 2010 – February 6, 2010. The theme is “Catholic Schools – Dividends for Life”.

In the previous years, Catholic Schools Week (CSW) had a sub-theme representing each day of the week. It seems to me that the National Catholic Educational Association (NCEA) is leaning towards a single general theme for the entire week.

This event is popular to students, particularly to middle schoolers. During this week, schools hold various activities and contests; and winners will get the chance to represent their schools in a state-wide contest such as the Spelling Bee (sponsored by the Jersey Journal). One school in downtown Jersey City (The Resurrection School) will be holding a Spelling Bee for their students.

As we already know, the number of Catholic Schools are declining not only in Hudson County, but across the United States.

Catholic Schools Week is also an opportunity for the schools to “market” their education system. For instance, administrators will host OPEN HOUSE inviting parents and other prospects to their schools and allow them to take a look at their buildings, curriculum, students, teachers, and school atmosphere. It is an ideal time to showcase the school’s strengths to entice parents to enroll their kids to the school like what St. Francis Academy in Union City has been doing.

Similarly, St. Dominic’s Academy (High School) on Kennedy Boulevard (McGinley Square Area) will hold a “Mothers’ Club Teacher Appreciation Breakfast” on February 3, while St. Joseph School (Elementary) on Pavonia-Baldwin-Magnolia Avenue in Journal Square will be having an “International Day” on the 31st of January.

  • Anyway, to my mind the harder education of an child is very vital for the reason that of the fact that unless a person is educated as much as possible, the job prospects aren’t good. As a person is educated more and more, there is a greater opportunity of achieving excellence on the work. This is because of the fact that education is the foundation on which the society will be built.
