Enjoy your Friday the 13th tomorrow night by attending this event at the Underground Theater in Hamilton Park. “As a theater company, we have always been captivated by ‘the story’ and the many ways it can be told” says J CITY Theater Artistic Director Sandy Cockrell. “Jersey Shorts allows us to celebrate the short story and showcase fellow Jersey City artists. It’s always a great night, and by adding music to the evening it really becomes a great sampling of Jersey City’s top performers.” This is the third incarnation of “Jersey Shorts”, having previously been produced with great success at Star Bar and The Brennan Court House in 2007.
“Jersey Shorts” marks the beginning of J CITY Theater’s forth season which is their first full season in their new home: The Underground Theater. “We are so grateful to finally have a permanent home for the company” says Executive Producer Clay Cockrell. “In the past, we have produced shows as space has become available and we’ve had some wonderful opportunities in many different venues. But it is very difficult to develop a loyal audience when the company travels to different spaces. We are tremendously thankful to Father Vic Kennedy and everyone at St. Michael’s and the Parrish of the Resurrection for allowing us to put down roots.”
Now that J CITY has a home, a full season of main stage productions is planned. First up: The God Committee by Mark St. Germaine, an explosive play which explores the patient selection process for heart transplants.
J CITY Theater (www.jcity.org) is a not-for-profit professional theater company based in Jersey City, New Jersey. It is a founding company of the Hudson County Theatre Alliance (www.hudsonall.org) and has been producing locally since 2006. Recent productions include Archibald MacLeish’s J.B., Douglas Carter Bean’s As Bees In Honey Drown, this summer’s smash hit: Moon Over Buffalo, and most recently A Tuna Christmas. They are also known for their engaging one act’s (Compression of a Casualty and The Spot) during HCTA’s annual One Act Festival. J CITY Theater’s mission is to create quality, high energy theater that is told with sophisticated simplicity.
