Jersey City Powerhouse Redevelopment

Powerhouse Redevelopment in Downtown Jersey City
Powerhouse photo from Steve Kelley. Original picture here.

Powerhouse is a familiar landmark to all Jersey city residents, especially to those who are from Downtown. The structure is a hot topic today (at least in the blogosphere and fora) because of its redevelopment planned by the city.

As a matter of fact, there was a two-page read from star ledger yesterday, but in can be summarized in one paragraph:

“…Jersey City plans to transform the massive structure into a retail and entertainment mecca, a showpiece for the Powerhouse Arts District, where renovated and abandoned warehouses sit amid new luxury high-rise towers….”

In a nutshell, the city wants to swap a land with the Port Authority of NJ/NY in exchange of the Powerhouse.

This is  a dump and should be razed to the ground ASAP!!!! No amount of restoration can remove the feeling of foreboding at the sight of this dismal structure!! If a building is old – it doesn’t mean its necessarily wortth preserving!!

The whole structure oughta be razed to the ground

Take a look what an old coal-fired powerplant has been transformed into in Baltimore and guess what? It’s being done by the same developer – Cordish.
