Checkpoint on JFK Boulevard

Checkpoint in Jersey City
Checkpoint at around 815AM

The flow of traffic was disrupted this morning on John F. Kennedy Boulevard (from St. Paul’s Avenue to US 139, Jersey City) due to police activity. I thought they were ticketing drivers not wearing seatbelt. So, during a stop, I asked a policeman what’s going on.

He simply answered “Checkpoint.” and did not elaborate.

I wanted to ask more questions but the light turned green.

Do you know the reason why they are doing checkpoint?

They were almost certainly checking for seat belts and cellular phone use. Police departments across the state have been doing this at various intersections in the name of safety, though really its mostly a cash cow for the cities.

Other points to watch out for: exit ramps off interstate 80 in Hackensack; Secaucus Road on the Jersey City / North Bergen Border.
