Show Me No Money: Fire Inspector Rejects Bribe

Show Me No Money - Fire Inspector Rejects Bribe local jersey city
For illustration purposes only.

In the midst of something bad is a good story …

Remember the big fire on St. Paul’s Avenue last week on Mother’s Day (May 11, 2008)? The fire started in an apartment at 272 St. Paul’s Avenue, and authorities found some building violations.

Yesterday morning, the owner of the apartment – Sabit Youseff (together with a certain Fayez Khellah), went to the office of Fire Inspector Matt Barrett and handed him a folder that contains copies of the infractions, eventhough Barrett already had some copies. “This will help to make things go away.” Youseff said when he insisted Barrett take the folder.

As our hero suspected, there was money inside the folder – $500. And right then and there, Barrett called the cops who then arrested Youseff and Fayez.

It’s always nice to hear stories of Jersey City people with integrity, so way to go, chief!
