USPS New Postal Pricing Takes Effect May 12, 2008

USPS New Postal Prices

On May 12, 2008,price adjustments for two USPS services – Shipping Services and Mailing Services – will take effect. Should Jersey City postal offices put a sign on their front doors and bulletin boards to inform customer of this increase? I went to JSQ Branch hoping to take a picture last week but didn’t see anything.

Below is the table for Mailing Services Prices:

[TABLE=2]

Notice that there’s a .1c increase for First Mail Letters.

So, can we still use the .41c Forever Stamps?

…Customers can continue to use the Forever Stamps that they purchased prior to May 12 at 41¢, even after the price change. We will have 5 billion Forever Stamps in stock to meet increased demand before the price change…

USPS also mentioned on their website that the price adjustment will save us money when shipping packages.

… the changes are broader and include prices that could save you real dollars when shipping packages:

  • Reduced Express Mail prices for items shipped to addresses closer to home.
  • Lower online postage prices for Express Mail and Priority Mail (domestic and international).
  • Volume Express Mail price rebates for frequent shippers.
  • Additional flat-rate box prices for Priority Mail….

More details on USPS website.
