Fire Suspends PATH Service (Again) April 30, 2008

UPDATE (04/30/2008 415PM): According to PATH Alert that I just received, PATH Service will be suspended through this evening due to signal and power cable damage caused by a small manhole fire east of Christopher Street Station. Full PATH Alert in the first comment.

For the second time in 3 days, a fire causes suspension of PATH Train services in both directions between Journal Square Jersey City and 33rd Street, New York.

The fire occurred sometime at noon today, almost the same time as the first fire incident this week.

The fire is reportedly out, but services are not restored yet as of this writing.

Below is the PATH Alert that I received this noon:

Due to a smoke condition Path Train service on the Journal Square to 33rd St. line and Hoboken to 33rd St. line is suspended.

  All, as of 4:08, path train service is still disrupted on the 33rd street line.

  FULL PATH ALERT BELOW:

  PATH service between 33rd Street and the Journal Square and Hoboken stations will be suspended in both directions through this evening due to signal and power cable damage caused by a small manhole fire east of Christopher Street Station. There were no injuries.

  PATH stations at 33rd Street, 23rd Street, 14th Street, 9th Street and Christopher Street stations will be closed this evening.

  PATH will operate regular service on its Newark to World Trade Center and Hoboken to World Trade Center lines, and also will operate between Journal Square and Hoboken stations.

  NJ Transit will cross-honor PATH tickets at Penn Station New York and Penn Station Newark. PATH passengers also can use the New York City subway system to pick up PATH service at the World Trade Center Station.

  PASSENGER ADVISORY: The earlier power problem at Christopher Street has been corrected. All train service between Journal Square and 33rd Street and Hoboken and 33rd Street is resuming normal service.

  CONCERNING THE PATH TRAIN SERVICE SUSPENTION OF THE 33RD STREET LINES PATH service between 33rd Street and the Journal Square and Hoboken stations will resume a normal operating schedule at 6:30 AM on 5-1-08 PATH stations at 33rd Street, 23rd Street, 14th Street, 9th Street and Christopher Street stations will be opened. PATH will operate regular service on its Newark to World Trade Center and Hoboken to World Trade Center lines.
