This is amazing. An Ecuadorian woman born more than a 100 years ago, still alive and kickin’. Her name is Ana Maria Gonzalez. She became a U.S. citizen at the age of 96, and she and her family have been living here in Jersey City since 1994.

What caught my attention in Jersey Journal’s news yesterday was the mention of Ana Maria’s 15-year old great-granddaughter Stephanie Cardenas.

Why?

Because I think she was a student of mine at St. Aedan’s School. They were the last batch before the school closed in 1995. So Stephanie, if by any chance you land on this site, please confirm if you are indeed my student who also excelled in the game of basketball.

Going back to Ana Maria, the news about her made me wonder: Is she the oldest person here in Jersey City?
