The scaffoldings are hard to ignore whenever I drive by this building along Kennedy Boulevard, which was the former site of Academy of St. Aloysius. So I wondered, Is the Caritas Academy undergoing a renovation? Or is it closing its doors like many other Catholic Schools in Jersey City?

After a quick research, I found out that the school is indeed shutting down at the end of this school year.

Caritas Academy
Address : 2495 Kennedy Boulevard, Jersey City
Phone : (201) 433-8877
Status : Closing (end of SY 2008)

More details if you read the rest….

The article titled “Caritas Academy school in Jersey City to close down” I found was written by Paul Koepp. It was published on nj.com March 14, 2008.

It basically says that the drop of enrollment and financial concerns are the main reasons the all-girls school is closing.

The school, at the site of the former Academy of St. Aloysius on Kennedy Boulevard in Jersey City, was sponsored by the Convent Station-based Sisters of Charity of St. Elizabeth as a merger of the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Hoboken and ASA

Approximately 190 students were enrolled in school year 2007 at Caritas.
