Abandoned? 861 Bergen Avenue – Coptic Church

Coptic Church 861 Bergen Avenue Jersey City

This Coptic Church building has been closed for a long time now. Has it been shut down longer than Pasha Restaurant has? I am not sure. There was a notice on its front window that says something about “Thanksgiving”, but I really didn’t pay attention.

The building to its left looks abandoned, too. But I saw the “FOR RENT” sign on the top window.

If you know something about this COPTIC Church, feel free to leave a comment.

The church is not abandoned it is used every Sunday and almost every Saturday this is a secondary building the primary building is 835 bergen ave

  • Hi George! Thanks for the clarification. If I am not sure if the place is abandoned or not, I put question mark in the title.

I’ll change the status in the post. Thanks for the tip! I appreciate it.

Btw, do you know what happened to Pasha, the restaurant next to the Coptic Church?

    Thanks again.

The building is not abandoned. It is used every week for several volunteer groups as well Sunday school classes and ESL classes. Major holidays are celebrated in it as well. As for thanksgiving, there is annual soup kitchen there hosted by the church as well as several members of the state government. The entrance for the building is also on Vroom st, that is why the bergen doors are never open.

  • Thanks for the additional info, Joe. I never knew that the main entrance was on Vroom Street. By the way, I already acknowledged that this building is not abandoned (see comment above yours, and the updated post)….

The events you mentioned sound interesting. If you happen to read this post again, let me know the event dates so I can feature them here. ;)
