Students of Martin Luther King, Jr School Were Evacuated

MLK Bergen Avenue Jersey city PS 11
Public School 11 (Martin Luther King Jr. School) looked peaceful today after yesterday’s (March 27) bomb scare.

I can’t believe I never heard of this yesterday. (I am from the same area) I could have been the first to report it to you. There were suspicious bags “in an alley between school property and a Hudson Community College parking lot at about 10:30 a.m” according to MLK’s security guard.

Good thing nj.com picked the story up today, so I took a picture of the school this afternoon and decided to write a post.

Does your child go to this school?

Bags trigger School 11 evacuation
Friday, March 28, 2008

Students were evacuated from Jersey City’s School 11, on Bergen Avenue, and a bomb squad brought in after a security guard spotted two suspicious backpacks yesterday.

The guard saw the brand-new-looking bags, one red, one blue, in an alley between school property and a Hudson Community College parking lot at about 10:30 a.m. The bags looked “weighted down,” said School 11 principal Chester Kaminski.

Cops and a bomb-sniffing dog found the bags and the parking lot to be safe, but cops found the types of tools a burglar might use in the bags, Kaminski said, noting that HCCC is closed this week.

Students were taken to Schools 17 and 6, returning at about 1:30 p.m. after lunch.
