JC Focuses on Pedestrian Safety

JC residents should cross the road like the Beatles did.
Are you a motorist/driver or a commuter/pedestrian?
It doesn’t really matter, as yesterday, March 24, 2008, Jersey City has “stepped up” the enforcement of some road laws that focus on the following:
1. Seatbelt law
2. Aggressive Driving
3. Not Yielding to Pedestrians
4. Pedestrians (Jaywalking)
The state of NJ granted $34,500 fund to pay for overtime patrols. Do you think that police will be all over the 14-mile JC to catch violators? Well, probably on the busy streets only.
I also believe that they should put more billboards to inform local residents of this new implementation, as not everyone reads the newspaper or go online.
Anyway, I must say this is good thing, as a lot of pedestrians cross the roads when the sign says “DONT WALK“. The funny part is they walk like they are on the moon, and do it with a cellphone sticked to their ears!
As for driving, I have no problems with that as I am a defensive driver — meaning I make sure to follow the rules, and always give way to the pedestrians, whether they are jaywalking or not.
How about you?
Oh, before I forget, drivers “who fail to yield could face $100 fines and two points on their license.”
One last question: when is the city going to fine people who inconsiderately litter on the streets?
