Opening: The Embankment at 10th Street and Erie Street

The Embankment Owner Dave O'Brien

UPDATE 03/03/2008: Latest post about this restaurant -> The Embankment Opened Feb 28, 2008

—–

Original Post below:

I learned from JCList forum that a new restaurant will be opening on Wednesday February 27, so I decided to stop by and take a few pics since the place is on the way home.

Here’s the news, the restaurant will open on Thursday, February 28, 2008 (not Wednesday). Read ahead to learn how I found out why….

Story continues below….

I was disappointed to see this sign on the entrance. (Sorry, bad pic!)

It says “Construction Permit Notice” on the front door

I thought I won’t be able to get in. Luckily, a man went out so I asked about the restaurant’s opening day, so he called the owner Dave O’Brien, who appeared in front of me few moments later. I introduced myself, and we shook hands. I noticed that they’re a little busy, but he showed willingness to answer my questions, so I fired away.

The first question I asked was the opening day. Is the restaurant going to be open on the 27th? Dave said they will open on the 28th because they are still not through setting up the place — reason why they keep pushing the opening day back. (Good luck to those going on Wednesday! :P )

Any Specials on the opening day? The answer was “No.” Dave said they plan to open “slowly” and they plan to have a Grand (I think “Official” is the more appropriate term) Opening after everything is established. Sounds reasonable to me.

I am not from Hamilton Park, so I asked what’s with the name. Dave answered that it has a historical significance, and despite living in JC for only 8 years, he mentioned the “Embankment” on the 6th street as the inspiration of the restaurant’s name.

He showed me the rest of the almost-finished-restaurant, and so I took the liberty of taking pictures:

The Bar Area. I noticed the flat-screen TVs hanging on different spots.

How about the sounds? What genre do they intend to play? They are playing Lounge Music (So no Rock), and I assume there will be no loud music at all.

I wasn’t able to take picture of the second level because it was a little dark and I was only using a phone camera. Maybe when you go, you can send me a good picture to be posted here.

It was getting a little late. So I told Dave I was leaving. As for his parting words, Dave said that the restaurant is open for all. If you want to eat, chill out with friends, or listen to music, just come visit his lounge and have some fun.

Dave sounds like a cool person so I wish him and his business all the best. If you are going there on Thursday, tell him you found out about them here on JCRegister.com (and JCList as well if you are a member there).

If you also have business you’d like to promote online, just let me know and shoot me an email (info@jcregister.com) and I’ll make a post here. I’ll even visit your place if it’s on my way.
