Catholic Schools in Jersey City celebrate the annual Catholic Schools Week (CSW) starting today, January 28, 2008. It will be observed until February 1, 2008.

This year’s CSW theme is “Catholic Schools Light The Way“. And normally, each day of the week has its sub-theme, to show how Catholic Schools are related to families, communities, government, and Church.

During this week, Catholic Schools hold various activities – fun and educational – that are related to the CSW. St. Joseph School on Pavonia Street will have Board games, Sports Day, Students Appreciation Day, and many more.

On the other hand, in Union City (just outside Jersey City), St. Francis Academy will be having the usual school contests like Math Bee, Spelling Bee, and Bingo. The school will also be having a unique Teachers’ Jeopardy game.

The common things I noticed about CSW are:

1.) Schools recognize their teachers and educators by dedicating one day for Teachers’ Appreciation Day. On this day, they give all their teachers something tangible as a sign of their appreciation.

2.) Also during the week of CSW, schools take advantage of the Open House where they invite parents to their school and allow them to take a look at their buildings, curriculum, students, teachers, and school atmosphere. Open House is ideal for schools who want to showcase their strengths to entice parents to enroll their kids to the school.

Catholic Schools Week is one of the most awaited events in Catholic Schools. Students absolutely love it. And while it is one of the busiest weeks of the year, teachers also have fun as they see their hardwork and effort appreciated not only by students, but also by parents and communities.
